ESGFIRE Commentary
CHARBONE has announced preliminary gas income of $0.55 million for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, an increase of 21% over the $0.46 million reported for Q2 2026, and $1.2 million for the nine-month period compared to nil for the same period in 2025. Gas income covers revenues across the Company’s hydrogen production and regional supply hubs for all industrial gases — clean UHP hydrogen from Sorel-Tracy Phase 1A as well as partner-sourced UHP helium and UHP oxygen — sold into both the U.S. and Canadian markets. The figures are preliminary and unaudited; full Q3 financial and operational results are expected on or before November 26, 2026, with a results webinar scheduled for December 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET.
In our view, the most useful part of this release is not the headline number but the corporate growth metrics CHARBONE discloses, benchmarked against Q1 2026. Active customers have grown from 3 to 28. Trailers across all gases from 2 to 11. Multi-year supply agreements from 2 to 4. Customer deliveries from roughly 2 to roughly 12 per month. Regional supply hubs from 2 to 4 — now Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia and New York State. Headcount from 9 to 15. Taken together with the revenue line, which has gone from $0.2 million in Q1 to $0.55 million in Q3 — roughly a tripling in two quarters — these metrics describe a business that has moved from first commercial sales to an operating multi-hub distribution platform within a single reporting year. On an ESGFIRE calculation, the Q3 figure implies an annualised gas income run-rate of approximately $2.2 million (ESGFIRE estimate, not Company guidance).
The operational side of the release is equally constructive. Phase 1A at Sorel-Tracy is now running 24/7 with on-site quality-control chromatographs operational, a dedicated lab technician hired, and moisture consistently maintained below 2 ppm — the certification infrastructure that allows CHARBONE to sell into the high-specification verticals it targets. Phase 1B civil work is complete, electrolyzer installation is underway, equipment connections are advancing, and the Company reiterates that the Fall 2026 launch remains on track. Cylinder filling for hydrogen and helium has been brought in-house at Sorel-Tracy, which management expects to support margin improvement and tighter control over product quality and delivery timelines, with a dedicated building under construction. Importantly, CHARBONE guides that Q3 operating expenses should remain comparable to Q2 — meaning a 21% revenue increase is expected to have come through on a broadly flat cost base, which, in our view, is the first tangible read-through on operating leverage as the platform scales. At Wolf River, Wisconsin, the generator is being repaired in Lévis, Quebec, with reinstallation targeted for December 2026 and a reservoir refill plan submitted to FERC and stakeholders.
Stepping back, this release closes the loop on the sequence we have followed since May: Phase 1B advanced on accelerating demand (Q1 results), the binding two-year Hone supply contract (June 10), 22 new helium customers (June 16), Phase 1B civil works underway (July 7), and now a preliminary Q3 that quantifies what those announcements have produced — a tripled revenue line, four regional hubs, 28 active customers and four multi-year agreements. CFO Benoit Veilleux describes it as “the strongest quarter to date,” and the numbers support that characterisation. In our view, the decisive catalyst from here is the commissioning of Phase 1B this fall: the distribution layer has been built ahead of production capacity, and with hydrogen demand previously disclosed as outpacing available supply, the question for Q4 2026 and 2027 is how quickly the expanded Sorel-Tracy output converts an already-established customer and hub network into a materially larger revenue base.
The December 1 webinar should give investors the first management read on that transition.
